Year 12 and 13 students attended a seminar on the work of the infamous Abstract expressionist Jackson Pollock in October 2021 at Latymer. We examined the historical, artist and psychological aspects of his practice, whilst also viewing his work through a feminist lens. With over 30 students from other schools such as Harrodian, Golphin and Cardinal Vaughan, the task was to write exhibition labels for his work that reference the possible different readings of Pollock's paintings. WLFS have been part of a local History of Art community for over 5 years now and we take it turns to host these seminars.

A group of Year 12 and 13 in November 2021 went to Latymer for another History of Art debate with Harrodian and Lady Margaret students also in attendance. The focus was on the representation of gender in the 1950s and the motion was: ‘This house believes that de Kooning's Woman I (1950-52) is offensive to women.’

It was an exciting and in-depth analysis of one of the more controversial Abstract-Expressionists from New York in the 1950s. After a great deal of research and discussion the result of the debate was a spilt down the middle.
