New 6th Form Art Scholars
For the first time at WLFS we are proud to announce that we have two new art scholars who will be joining the 6th Form in September: Emma from our Year 11 and Dina from Sacred Heart. In what was a very competitive field, both candidates interviewed very well and the quality of the work in their portfolios is of an exceptional standard.
One of the key drives of the Art Scholarship programme, other than being an ambassador for the department, is to foster more creative links between the 6th Form and the Lower School.
Both scholars understood the importance of this and have excellent initiatives to support this, for example a KS4 mentoring programme and KS3 Fashion and Textiles Club to name but a few. We greatly look forward to developing this new creative programme.
The first 2 images are Dina’s amazing drawings of contorted faces - the use of black and white to create an intense contrast is striking and highly effective.
The next 2 images are based on a trip to Brompton Cemetery for a project called 'Death, Decay and Dereliction'. Emma has combined images of Brompton cemetery with the painting style of German contemporary painter Daniel Richter and the brief was to create an image in the Lockdown based on 'Limbo' and how this could be represented (pencil, colour pencil and watercolour on paper). Her other piece is a fine-liner drawing based on fruit and vegetables that have been decaying in the Art Dept for 3 months!!
