Livat Art Prize
Adea in Year 9 has won a prestigious art competition to celebrate the upcoming Grand Opening of Livat Hammersmith - the new and improved Kings Mall.
Students were invited to submit an artwork that represents and encompasses their favourite community tradition:
'To me, this bridge and place in general reminds me of going out and having fun with my family. It is part of my everyday walk to school and I decided to draw it. The road in the image is using a mix of chalk pastel, coloured pencil and outlined (like the rest of it) with different coloured pens. The bridge itself has a coloured pencil base and is layered and outlined.' Adea Year 9
We had an exciting and varied number of entries. Entries were judged by a panel made up of representatives from Livat and the William Morris Society. Adea received a prize of £500 worth of gift vouchers to be spent within Livat Hammersmith. The winning artwork and shortlisted works are on display in the shopping centre. Feedback from the judges at The William Morris Society:
'My colleagues and I are all extremely impressed by the level of talent in this competition.'
By contrasting composition, technique, and concept with consideration towards the brief, we narrowed the entries down to a shortlist of the following: Arun, Adea, Sarah, Tegan and Zoe.
'The artistry and use of colour in Tegan's depiction of the bridge was excellent. Sarah managed to capture the community spirit in the Lyric centre square, Arun reflected the iconic buildings and landmarks of Hammersmith in a new and creative way. Equally, Zoe's artwork taught us something new about her community, in a very personal piece. However, we were particularly impressed by Adea's dynamic and bold artwork with incredibly expressive colours. The choice of perspective makes an unusual depiction of a familiar landmark. I particularly like that, as the viewer, you were invited to take this 'tradition' of walking across the bridge through the artwork.'
The work of Monty Year13, Coco and Asya Year12 and Dolores with Naiyah, Lydia and Aisha Year10 is also on display.
Well done and thank you to all who entered at WLFS.
